The Challenge Map

THE FALL STUDY CHALLENGE

Your week-by-week guide for October.

Print this page and tuck it inside your Bible.

Before October 1, do two things. First, pick your book (if you are unsure, pick James: five chapters, one month, and the book this method is named after). Second, decide WHEN you will study. A routine that is not on the calendar is a wish. Morning, lunch break, after the kids are down. Write it down.

WEEK 1 (OCT 1-7)

Gather the context

Read your whole book start to finish, in one sitting if it is short. Then ask the context questions: Who wrote this? Who was it written to? When, and why? What was happening at that time? What are the main themes you noticed? Do not rush this. Context is king, and everything you find in weeks 2 through 4 stands on it.

WEEK 2 (OCT 8-14)

Summarize the chapters

Go back through chapter by chapter. For each one, write a short summary in your own words: what is being said, to whom, and what stands out. Your own words matter here. Summarizing is where you stop being a reader and start being a student.

WEEK 3 (OCT 15-21)

Dig into the verses

By now, certain verses have been tugging at you. This week, slow down on them. Compare a few translations. Note the keywords. Look up the cross-references and let scripture interpret scripture. One verse done well beats ten verses skimmed.

WEEK 4 (OCT 22-31)

Study the words

Pick the words that carry the most weight in your book and find out what they really mean. A Bible dictionary or a free tool like Blue Letter Bible will take you to the original Greek or Hebrew. This is the deepest layer of the onion, and it is where the "I never saw that before" moments live.

If you fall behind: do not quit, shrink. Behind on chapters? Summarize two a day. Missed week 3? Map one verse, not five. The goal of this challenge is not perfection. It is finishing one book, studied for yourself, for the first time or the fiftieth.

If you want the tools built for exactly this rhythm (the binder, the context and chapter summary templates, the verse mapping and word study templates), that is our Complete Bible Binder Study System. And if you want to learn the method itself on video, the Happy Mapper Course teaches every step. Neither is required. Your Bible, a notebook, and this map are enough to start.

Happy Studying,
