Gray Hair and God's Grace: Finding Strength in Every Season

I found some gray hair on my head a few months ago. To be honest, I smiled because I remembered the proverb about gray hair being a crown of the wise. But there are other parts about getting older that I don't love. I’m sure I got a few “amens” from some of you reading that sentence!

But I love the verse of this psalm because it highlights the critical nature of recognizing the core of our lives. Our life seems like our own in our youth, but like Peter, many of us will arrive at the age where others will make decisions for us.

Before you write off the rest of this message as depressing, it holds incredible hope and joy. Let me explain!

When we rely on things that don’t change, like the unchanging nature and strength of God, it can never lessen or be lost. When I know my portion is secure with God, I never worry about someone stealing it or it being destroyed. The eternality of our God can bring us an immense sense of comfort and peace in the face of things that bring many people a great deal of stress. I think sometimes this is what God intended for us. He didn’t want us to move from one season to the next fighting for the previous season or struggling to move quicker into the next one. He gave us all we needed to live by grace in all areas of our lives.

So friends, if you find yourself impatient to get to the next season of life or fighting to keep a season from passing, I pray this Scripture brings encouragement and comfort to us all. As always, if you’re joining in this week’s memory verse with us, happy memorizing!
